This morning at approximately 3:10 AM a downtown police officer observed a truck hit a parked car (no one in that vehicle) in the 200 block of Travis. The driver of the truck then backed up and attempted to leave the scene. The officer was attempting to flag down the truck when the driver of the truck started driving toward him. The driver of the truck was not slowing down or stopping as he was approaching the officer. The officer was having a hard time getting out of the path of the driver and was in fear of being struck by the truck. The officer fired two shots at the oncoming driver. The driver was struck one time in the upper thigh. (Both rounds entered the drivers side of the vehicle)
The driver continued past the officer, attempting to flee the scene. A Shreveport Deputy Marshall was en-route to assist the officer and crashed into the suspects truck at Market/Texas.
The intoxicated suspect/driver was taken to LSU medical center where he was treated for the bullet wound and later booked into the Shreveport City Jail on the charge of Attempted 1st Degree Murder of a Police Officer.
The driver of the truck was identified as Elior Sifuentes (02-19-82) of Springhill, LA. There were no other passengers in the vehicle.
No officers were injured.
