Several Officers promoted

Eleven officers are being promoted at 2 p.m. today in the Police Assembly Room, located on the second floor.

Among these promotions is a fourth Assistant Chief Position -- created by a restructuring of the Uniformed Services Division (USD), also known as patrol.

With the promotions, the USD will now have two assistant chiefs instead of just one. Assistant Chief Glenn Schach will now be joined by Assistant Chief Robert Dowell.

In addition, the department is going from shift commanders to area commanders -- which will take the department from three captains who command each of the three shifts to four captains responsible for each of the four areas of the city.

The "Area Concept," as it is called, was in place several years ago and was changed to the "Shift Concept."
