Officer arrested during Domestic Incident
A Shreveport Police officer and his girlfriend were arrested this morning after a domestic incident in the 6200 block of Bert Kouns.
Michael Welch, 31, of Shreveport was arrested for misdemeanor domestic abuse battery and Crystal Nicholas, 27, of Shreveport was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
The incident occurred about 3:49 a.m. after Nicholas returned in Welch's white Dodge Ram pickup truck. Welch had reported the truck stolen after Nicholas took it two nights ago and didn't return home or make phone contact with him during that time.
When Nicholas returned home with the truck this morning, a domestic struggle took place. Both parties received minor injuries and were arrested. They were booked into the Shreveport City Jail.
"SPD is proactive when it comes to enforcing the law. It is unfortunate when an officer is among those we deal with, but we address it just like any other citizen," said Chief of Police Henry Whitehorn.
Welch has been with the department since March of 2005. He has been placed on paid administrative leave pending an internal affairs investigation.
