FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Second suspect charged in Ledbetter shooting
Shreveport police arrested a second person in a drive-by shooting that killed a 16-year-old high school student and injured her 17-year-old friend as they were walking down the street.
James Mason, 41, of Shreveport was booked into the Shreveport City Jail today on a charge of principal to first-degree murder for the incident that occurred at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Ledbetter and Hickory streets.
Mason and his nephew, 25-year-old Charles Evans of Shreveport, reportedly were driving home from work when they got into a verbal altercation because of a near collision between the pedestrians and the vehicle.
After leaving the scene, the pair returned and opened fire on the pedestrians, striking two people. The female was taken to LSU Hospital, but died of her injuries. Meanwhile, Washington is expected to recover.
Evans was arrested the day of the shooting for first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder. Today, detectives got enough evidence to show Mason's involvement and took him into custody.
