FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DWI News conference

Many people may not be aware of changes in the DWI laws -- new rules that should make drivers think even more before getting behind the wheel after they have been drinking.

The Louisiana Highway Safety Commission, the Shreveport Police Department and the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office will host a news conference at SPD at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, to discuss these changes.

A big change in the law will be the requirement of Ignition Interlock Devices being required on vehicles driven by those convicted of DWI who have been granted hardship licenses. Hardship licenses are granted to citizens who have had their driver's license suspended for a year upon conviction -- another new change in the law.

Learn more about these changes, holiday DWI enforcement plans and get a first-hand look at the Ignition Interlock Device at the news conference.

The news conference will be in front of the SPD Patrol entrance, which faces Texas Avenue (you enter the driveway off Hope Street). In case of rain, it will take place in the tunnel of SPD, next to the Coffee Shop and the elevators that lead to the administrative offices.

Information can be left with crimestoppers at 673-7373 or by logging onto the crimestoppers website at www.crimestoppersshreveportcaddo.com.
