FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Officer involved shooting

A Shreveport Police Officer is on routine paid administrative leave tonight after he discharged his weapon.

The officer, whose name is not being released at this time, and another officer were dispatched to a Domestic Disturbance call in the 8500 block of Edgewood around 9:20 PM.

When officers arrived at the scene they found a man standing in the doorway of his house and his estranged girlfriend sitting in her car yelling at each other. As officers were trying to get control of the situation the female calmly walked over a gate and opened it.

That's when a large rottwieler came out of the backyard and assumed an aggressive posture toward the officers. One officer was able to scramble onto a nearby car, but his partner had no where to go.

When the dog approached the officers he fired his weapon three (3) times striking the dog at least twice. The female who opened the gate was struck one time in the right ankle, by a ricochet of a bullet fired at the dog.

The female was taken for treatment of her injury to Willis-Knighton on Greenwood Road. Her injuries are not life-threatening.

Per Department policy the officer has been put on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

Animal control was forced to put the rottweiler down due to the injuries it had sustained.

Information can be left with crimestoppers at 673-7373 or by logging onto the crimestoppers website at www.crimestoppersshreveportcaddo.com.
