As Shreveport’s Department of Community Development wraps-up another successful summer jobs program, Mayor Cedric B. Glover will personally thank each young person for the commitment they made to their jobs. | Over two hundred youngsters will pack Shreveport’s Independence Stadium Skybox for a farewell reception Friday July 25th at 1:00 PM. | Last year Mayor Glover reinstated the City’s Summer Youth Employment Program as a way to engage neighborhood youngsters in constructive, positive summer activities and more importantly, earn first-hand work experience. The success in 2007 and continued financial support of the City Council allowed even more young people to join the summer jobs program in 2008. | They applied for their jobs, were interviewed, selected for specific areas of work and this summer they earned $7 an hour, working full-time. | “Each summer, employers work hard to make this experience just like the real thing,” says Bonnie Moore, Director of Community Development. “We thank Mayor Glover for seeing the value in the Summer Youth Employment Program and having the vision to see how this experience enhances the education and career outlook of these young persons.” |
