August 12, 2008 - SHREVEPORT PROPERTY TAXES ROLLED BACK

The Shreveport City Council unanimously voted to approve the City’s property tax millage for 2008 at it’s meeting on Tuesday August 12, 2008.

City property taxes for 2008 will be 44.54 mills, down 4.5% from 2007. City tax rates are being rolled back, as a result of this year’s reassessment of property by the Caddo Parish Tax Assessor. Reassessments are conducted every four years.

Mayor Cedric B. Glover thanked council members for their vote, noting that it marked only the second time in Shreveport history that City tax rates were rolled back.

“We recognize that costs are rising for many of our citizens’ basic needs, like fuel, food and utilities”, said Mayor Cedric B. Glover. “Although our costs are rising, too, we felt that it was appropriate to roll back our property tax rates to keep from increasing the burden on their pocketbooks.”

City tax bills will be mailed out later this year.
