Their prayer is for a dry, sunny summer day so that Tuesday, July 28, 2009 the young people of the World Changers program can do what they came here to do and that is to assist local residents in need of home repairs. | World Changers is a coeducational missions program – a ministry of the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Conference. This year they are a hearty and committed group of 250 youngsters from across the country. | “Unfortunately all they’ve seen since their arrival is rain,” says local coordinator Wendell Collins. “They’re so anxious that if the weather clears up this afternoon, (Monday afternoon) they will grab their tool belts and get to work.” | Eleven homes in nine Shreveport communities will be the worksites for the World Changers. Their volunteer work is scheduled for July 27 – 31st. Youngsters learn missions firsthand by becoming personally involved in volunteerism. | It’s such a joy to see and experience these positive and spiritual young people at work in our neighborhoods,” says Bonnie Moore, Director of the City’s Department of Community Development. “Through their dedicated mission work they touch the lives of our homeowners in a very special way.” | The work of World Changers answers in a very real way the question “Am I my brother’s keeper?” stressing hands-on personal involvement through participation in home construction and renovation work. | To arrange media coverage of the World Changers project contact: Phillip Robinson @ 731.695.2200. |
