Water and Sewer Rates
The City of Shreveport completed negotiations with the Department of Justice in 2014 to correct the negative environmental impact the crumbling infrastructure has had for decades. The antiquated water and sewer system must be overhauled in order to comply with the Clean Water Act and to maintain our drinking water system. Performing that work will require over one billion dollars, resulting in unavoidable increases in water and sewer rates.
The Department of Water and Sewerage is financially self-supported by rates paid by customers. The Department receives no funding from the City of Shreveport’s General Fund. Every dollar customers pay is used to ensure that Shreveport continues to have reliable, quality water and wastewater services today and into the future.
The schedule of approved rate increases along with two sample bills is included below.

Currently, Shreveport’s average monthly sewer and water bill is lower than other cities like Little Rock, Bossier City, and New Orleans. While these increased rates are unavoidable, the City is mindful of the impact on low-income customers.
The Shreveport Water Assistance Program, or SWAP for short, has been developed to assist low-income households on a need basis, up to two water and sewer bills per year. For information on SWAP, contact: Caddo Community Action Agency, Socialization Services or customer service for the City of Shreveport at 673-5510.
