City of Shreveport to Host Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Basketball Tournament
The City of Shreveport (SPAR), in conjunction with Cumulus Radio and Academy Sports and Outdoors will host the 29th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Basketball Tournament, February 10th – 12th. This tournament is designed to unite men, women and youth of all ethnic backgrounds for three days of fun, fitness and community unity. Over 100 teams from 5 southern states will participate and $3,000 of cash prizes and awards will be given to championship teams.
Event activities kick off on Friday, February 10th at 6:00pm at Southern University-Shreveport gymnasium with a Celebrity Wheelchair Basketball game, followed by the Academy Sports and Outdoors “Slam Dunk Contest.” Tournament games will begin on Saturday at Shreveport area gyms.
Championship Sunday will be held at the Southern University-Shreveport gymnasium, highlighting all championship games beginning at 12:00noon. Promotional giveaways and community resource booths will be available for the entire family. Individuals 18 and older will be eligible to register for a $5,000 shot during half-time of the Pro-Am championship game. Halftime entertainment between championship games will include performances from Booker T. Washington High School Marching Band, area youth dance groups and hip hop / old school dance contests.
