[ARCHIVED] SPAR Pool Open Houses

The City of Shreveport (SPAR) will host swimming pool open houses beginning this weekend for the 2017 swimming pool season. The open house dates are:
• Saturday, May 6 from 11 AM to 1 PM at Querbes Pool
• Saturday, May 13 from 2 PM to 4 PM at Southern Hills Pool
• Saturday, May 20 from 11 AM to 1 PM at Airport Park Pool
• Sunday, May 21 from 2 PM to 4 PM at David Raines Park Pool
• Saturday, May 27 from 11 AM to 1 PM at Bill Cockrell Pool
SPAR pool open house activities will provide youth and adults an opportunity to meet the lifeguards for the upcoming summer season and tour the pool facility. Shreveport Fire Department will also conduct water safety demonstrations. Since May is National Water Safety month, the open houses are a great way to educate our community on the importance of pool safety as well as our upcoming swim season (including swimming lessons and water aerobics). We will also have bike safety training. The open houses are free and open to the public.
The City of Shreveport kicks off the summer swimming season on Tuesday, June 6th. All City pools will be open for public swimming. The City pools include: Airport Park (6500 Kennedy), Bill Cockrell (4109 Pines Road), David Raines (2920 Round Grove), Querbes (3500 Beverly) and Southern Hills (1002 Bert Kouns).
SPAR partners with Rock Solid Sports to provide public swimming, swimming lessons and water aerobics at our City swimming pools. Registration is required for both swimming lessons and water aerobics. Registration forms are available at any SPAR community center, on the SPAR website (myspar.org) and on the Rock Solid website (rocksolidsports.com).
All City pools will close July 30th except Southern Hills. The swimming pool at Southern Hills will remain open through Labor Day. Fees and pool hours may be found at myspar.org.
SPAR also has seven spray grounds. Starting May 1, spray grounds will operate between 8 AM and 8 PM, and they are located at the following community centers: Airport Park, David Raines, Hattie Perry, Lakeside (currently closed for repairs), and Querbes (currently closed for repairs). There are also spray grounds at A.C. Steere Park and Riverview Park (currently closed). Use of the spray grounds is free of charge. Water shoes are recommended at SPAR spray parks.
