The City of Shreveport launched a web page this week dedicated to its new bike paths initiative. Citizens can obtain information regarding the upcoming bike paths pilot at
www.shreveportbikepaths.com.
“This is another vital step in providing the public, both bicyclists and motorists, education on what it means to have bike paths in our community and how both groups are responsible for watching out for one another in creating this enhanced quality of life feature in our city,” said Mayor Ollie Tyler.
The City has begun installing signage and preparing roadways to facilitate the bike lanes. Streets in Phase I of the City’s plan include Gilbert (from Ockley to Marshall), Creswell (from Ockley to Stoner), and Ockley (Line to Gilbert). All are expected to be completed and open to the public by May 26.
Bike Shreveport partnered with the City to promote the new bike paths with its “Slow Roll” ride last month. The group also has been instrumental in providing content for the City’s new web page which also provides a link to www.bikeshreveport.com for details on their events. The City’s site is full of information designed to inform bicyclists and motorists about the upcoming initiative as well as rules of
the road. Topics include:
The City of Shreveport Bike Path Phase I Plan
National Bike Month (May) Events

Helpful Bike Links

Bike Laws
The City held two public meetings to get community feedback prior to moving ahead with the bike pilot initiative. Bike Shreveport will join the City in distributing more than 1,000 door hangers with information for residents along the bike paths.
