This weekend is the 27th Annual Martin Luther King Jr., Basketball Tournament! More than 100 teams from our region will compete in this great event!
The weekend kicks off with a wheelchair exhibition game between the Shreveport-Bossier Mavericks and the Shreveport Silver Spokes. Game time is 6 PM, Friday, February 20.
Other events include:
• Skills & Drills Challenge for middle school basketball players - Friday at 6:30
• Slam Dunk Contest Friday night! $500 to the winner. The contest is open to anyone. Call SPAR Athletics to register (318-673-7748)
• Championship Sunday at Southern University Shreveport. Games kick off at noon. Events include a community resource fair; 2015 MLK Jr. Basketball Tournament Achievement Awards to LaMark Carter, Breon Davis and Lueburda Myers; recognition of Black History Month essay contest winners (Jackeshia Davis and Nicholas Dyer); performance by Le'Kisha Robison (pop/R&B recording artist); chance to shoot a hoop and win $5000
All tournament games kick off at 9 AM on Saturday, February 21 (see myspar.org for game locations). Admission to all events is free with donation of one or more non-perishable canned goods to support the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana.
