The City of Shreveport announces Project Swim 2016, the City’s free swimming lesson program. This is the sixth year for Project Swim, which started in 2011 after the tragic 2010 Red River drowning that took the life of six Shreveport teenagers. The City of Shreveport, through SPAR, has partnered with Rock Solid for the past six years to teach more than 8,000 participants how to swim.
Project Swim is funded through a grant from the Hertz Family Foundation. The California-based foundation’s generous donation will underwrite the cost for lifeguards and swim lessons for more than 1,400 citizens this year.
Project Swim details:
• Registration is required. To register, contact Rock Solid at 318-779-1451.
• Registration is first come, first served. Preference will be given to Caddo Parish residents.
• Swimming lessons begin June 20 at all SPAR pools. Multiple lesson times are available. Each session includes five, 70-minute lessons.
