I just read in the Shreveport Times that Querbes and Huntington golf courses are receiving renovations. Jerry Tim Brooks golf course needs a new irrigation system as well as a new barn. The barn that they currently use is full of Asbestos hanging down everywhere (ceiling and walls) OSHA 29 CFR 1926.1101 covers construction work, repairs, renovations, and demolition of structures containing asbestos. The inhalation of asbestos fibers by the workers can cause serious diseases of the lungs and other organs that progresses to disabilities and death. While the other two golf courses are being renovated, Jerry Tim Brooks golf course definitely needs to be included. Please be a voice for those workers by getting this information to the proper department heads (NOW). I intend to get this concern to the Mayors office also. Thank you for expediting this matter.

Remove the statue of Martin Luther King, I find it offensive. What else needs to be said? Everything offensive these days is coming down. I find it VERY offensive to have a statue of a BLACK man prominently displayed at a major intersection in Sherevport. Once its down we need to rename Dr Martin Luther King Dr to something more nonracial. IF the Confederate Memorial in front of the Caddo Parish court house has to come down, and it is a composite of the average Confederate soldier, then the MLK statue and street name MUST be changed. How can a composite cause anyone with even hint of intellect concern? Just think how this would help to close the racial divide if the statue were removed and the street renamed!!
Please get back to me if you have further concerns or questions.

I know a number of individuals who have felonies who are denied jobs that they are qualified for. I don't know that this is fair to those who paid their dues and trying to turn their life around. The impact of losing out on a opportunity to better their life due to a mistake made possibly when they were young and stupid, or better yet being a victim of not having the money to get a lawyer that could have presented their case to avoid such a background, can take a toll on a person. I don't understand how we expect for people to progress if they are not given them the chance. I think there should be a reform program that will allow an individual to get the felony expunged off their record. I think there should be funds raised for such a reform. I believe that the results from the program would prove good for our community.

Shreveport is the 3rd largest city in Louisiana and when it comes to finding fun educational centers to take students on a field trip, there is only 2. Southern Louisiana has the aquarium, insectarium,an amazing zoo, dairy farms, agcenter, pumpkin patches, strawberry patches, several awesome museums, and so on. The Shreveport state museum is old and it have not changed since i last went (which was 25 years ago). You can only go to Sci Port so many times before it gets lame. Shreveport need to expound on the culture of La (the southerners say Shreveport is Texas). They are right because it lacks the La culture. I know we have something to acknowledge whether it is known crops, things made from the northern area. Can we have a museum on how Shreveport got its name and also consist of all the cultures, food, music, celebrations, black history of Shreveport, and so on. Shreveport has several train yards, someone can have an area where tours are done about trains and what makes the go.

You want people to move here? Why not offer incentives? I just bought a house, put over 300k into the local city of Shreveport. I had to change my insurance over to Louisiana insurance (auto, home, boat, etc..), and all are very expensive. I am paying Parish taxes, city taxes, sales tax, income tax. All this while contributing and creating jobs locally!! I just went to get my vehicle registered and find out you want to double tax me again by charging me sales tax on a truck I bought 2 years ago in Alabama and paid sales tax on it!! This should be criminal, taking more of my hard earned money.... Not very inviting and I will make sure and warn anyone else that tries to move to LA form another state. I'm ashamed at the government overreach!!!

Fifteen and two years ago, commercial development representative contacted my husband and I, who live at 1110 Janther place, with the possibility of buying the two houses on the corner of St. Vincent and Kings Hwy,(facing McDondalds) and the two houses behind , which is our house and an old dilapidated white two story house on the corner of St. Vincent and Janther Place. This is a prime comercial location which could complete the esthetic transformation in this intersection. This location is diagonally across from Raising Canes, and across from condominiums. It would be extremely beneficial to have sit down restaurant, such as Red Lobster, built at this location, with I-49, and the many businesses, in close proximity. There has been a recent renovation of St. Vincent Mall in hopes of improving the esthetics of this area, yet the two story dilapidated house does little for the area's facelift. This would be great for the economy with the 4-star General as well as many others move here.

The 'war on drugs' is insanely expensive
In the past 40 years, The US has spent more than $1 trillion enforcing drug laws.
Annually, the US spends at least $15 billion a year on drug law enforcement.
Globally, over $100 billion is spent fighting the war on drugs every single year.
That wasted money could be spent on programs that actually matter
Governments around the world are enduring brutal austerity measures to balance budgets in the aftermath of the global financial crisis of 2008.
Taxpayer money squandered on drug enforcement is diverted from other social spending measures that actually benefit citizens.
Like free housing or extremely cheap for homeless people. One us city has already done this and it helped there economy.
As well as Zero point and better non-polluting energy technology being released to the public like the kind tesla built or many other inventors threw-ought the decades whose tech global governments keep stealing and locking away in vaults.

If the City of Shreveport and community leaders want to let the general public know what youth activities are available to them for their children, they need to post more photos and videos of SPAR sponsored youth activities. Therefore, the general public will know that the City has a viable youth athletic program but it requires their support by attending these events, and help fund the after school athletic and nonathletic programs. Let's put it this way: SPAR now offers martial arts, basic computer skill training, weight lifting, basketball, baseball, amateur boxing, swimming and etc.; but, no photos of our youth participating in these events.

If you go North on Fern over E. 70th, the middle lane and the far right lane both go straight but then the lane narrows. The far right lane should be made a right turn lane only turning into the Le Madeleine parking lot or the middle lane should be made a left turn lane only turning into the Sport Spectrum parking lot. I go this way every evening and have witnessed several almost wrecks. Also, the light on the Fern Avenue side needs to stay green longer. There is MUCH traffic on Fern Avenue now and the green light only stays green long enough to let about 4 cars across. Thank you.

All Shreveport Airport does is cost you more for a ticket to be air bused to Dallas or Houston to actually get to travel some place. The community could use the additional Jobs this would Bring. I am currently a Felon on active probation and in good standings, and since coming home Ive completed my GED and enrolled in college for my AUTOMOTIVE MECHANICS partially because I can find any kind of employment due to my background.
That being said, I still cant find any kind of employment, even WITH a GED and TRADE SCHOOL behind me. Wether it be because I am a FELON or a WOMAN, is unknown. So Im opening MY OWN AUTO SHOP after graduation in 2020, but that still leaves me UNEMPLOYED and UNEMPLOYABLE until then. As an Automotive Student I have a pretty extensive tool list but cant find a job to help me pay for it.
WE HAVE TO HAVE A JOB TO BUILD A CAREER, but how do we do that if NOBODY HIRES FELONS.
We need a FELON EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM desperately!!!!

I have severe depression after being sexually assaulted a few years ago. I have found it very hard to find happiness. I was enrolled at NSU in Shreveport for my bachelors in nursing. I made straight As all the way up until my last semester of my four year degree and had to stop due to some family issues. Another thing that adds to my depression. I have found a great joy in going to the local compactor sights and have brought home many things such as home decor, tools, furniture etc. that shouldn’t have been thrown away. I wish I could post pictures. However, I’ve noticed that there is a request for ideas to cut down on trash. Well I believe the trash would literally be cut into half if people were allowed to take home items that they might still feel have some use left in them. It is RIDICULOUS some of the things I have seen being thrown away. It is sad that even with a job, I still can afford some of the things I’ve seen being thrown away. It makes me sick to my stomach!

Gambling establishments continue to negatively affect our community by taking needed resources for personal gain. Since legalizing gambling, our society is addicted in one form or another. The following has situations have occurred since legalizing gambling:
1) Gambling addiction is escalating with no end in site.
2) Gambling addiction rates are double for those living near a gambling establishment.
3) Personal bankruptcy rates are higher in countries that have gambling establishment.
4) Crime rates are on the rise due to desperate individuals who are trying to recover gambling loses.
5) Fraud and embezzlement become common among formerly hard-working and highly trusted people.
6) Suicide rates among addicted gamblers are greater then any other addiction.

Shreveport experienced decline due to departure of the oil and manufacturing industries, leaving an economic void for which government did nothing to create new opportunities to replace the jobs that were lost. Consequently, 25% of Shreveport lives at or below the poverty line today. Crime has become a pressing issue as a result. This is discouraging businesses from investing in Shreveport, causing residents to move away, and deterring tourism.
The Shreveport Police Department has just over 600 officers responsible for policing approximately 185,000 citizens, leaving SPD spread too thin and paid too little. The first step is to increase the size and salaries of SPD to instill confidence in businesses that their investments will be protected. Furthermore, repair and modernize city infrastructure. Neither citizens nor businesses can function in a city wherein dilapidated roads cause damage to vehicles and equipment, lest Shreveport risks getting left behind and becoming a ghost town.
