Welcome

Welcome to Block by Block, a community-driven initiative to revitalize Shreveport, one neighborhood at a time! Led by the Mayor’s Office in collaboration with residents, local leaders, and national partners, this program empowers communities to take pride in their neighborhoods and shape the future of our city. Block by Block is a new strategy to revitalize neighborhoods that have long suffered from blight and neglect. Instead of trying to fix too many areas at once, the city is focusing resources on small sections of specific neighborhoods—beginning with Mooretown and Highland and gradually moving to other parts of the city. This concentrated approach is designed to improve housing conditions, reduce crime, and support long-term community investment. Whether you're here to learn more, share your voice, or volunteer, you're apart of the movement to shape a better Shreveport.

How Does It Work?

The initiative uses a property lifecycle system to track violations, demolitions, legal actions, and redevelopment. Developed with help from national experts and the Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative, the plan reflects months of research and strategy. Neighborhood residents are invited to help identify priorities, and each area will receive a customized improvement plan that reflects its unique challenges and strengths.

Why It Matters

Block by Block represents a major shift in how Shreveport addresses vacant and abandoned properties. It’s not just about removing blight—it’s about restoring neighborhoods and empowering the people who live there. By aligning data, city departments, and community voices, the city aims to create real, lasting change and lay the foundation for future economic development.

How the Program Works

The Block by Block initiative focuses on specific neighborhoods across Shreveport, guided by local data and community input. Each targeted block becomes a site for coordinated clean-up events, infrastructure checks, resident surveys, and resource deployment.

Working groups composed of residents, City staff, and volunteers design and execute improvement strategies for each area. With regular progress updates and community events, the initiative ensures every voice is heard and every block gets a chance to shine.
