The Shreveport Fire Department Maintenance Division is under the direction of Chief of Maintenance Gary Foster. This position is directly responsible for the maintenance of the department’s frontline vehicles including 26 engines, 7 aerials, 15 medic units, approximately 100 staff and specialty vehicles and equipment to include 150 SCBAs. The Maintenance division is also responsible for the purchase and distribution of all station materials and supplies as needed for day to day station life.

Chief Foster is a life long resident of Caddo parish, and completed his education at the Job Corps in Hot Springs, Arkansas graduating high school add completing 1600 hours of training in automotive services in April,  1983.

Chief Foster joined the Shreveport Fire Department on March 16, 1992 as an automotive mechanic. He received the highest level certifications from the National Emergency Vehicle technicians association in 2001, achieving level 3 certifications in light and heavy duty fire apparatus service. Chief Foster was promoted to assistant Chief of Maintenance in June, 2008 and subsequently promoted to Chief of Maintenance in December, 2008. Attended the national fire training academy to complete courses in Fire service financial management and inter personal dynamics.
