Shreveport Financial Empowerment Center
The Shreveport Financial Empowerment Center offers free one-on-one financial counseling to residents
About the Shreveport Financial Empowerment Center
A partnership of the Mayor’s Office and United Way of Northwest Louisiana, the Shreveport Financial Empowerment Center (FEC) provides professional, one-on-one financial counseling and coaching as a free public service to local residents. At the Shreveport FEC, professionally trained FEC counselors help individuals and families manage their finances, pay down debt, increase savings, establish and build credit, and access safe and affordable mainstream banking products. At the core of the FEC model is the integration of counseling into other social services, such as housing and foreclosure prevention, workforce development, prisoner reentry, benefits access, domestic violence services, and more.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, video conference appointments are available. You can schedule your own appointment through our easy online scheduling system here or by calling 211. We will adjust accordingly to the Governor’s orders for in-person appointments. However, we want to ensure the health and safety of you, your family, and our staff.
Whether you are in chronic financial trouble, an unexpected crisis arises, or you just want to make sure you are on the right track, individualized counseling can move you toward greater financial stability. Work with a counselor is client-led, so whatever circumstance or goals you come in with, a counselor can help you design a plan of action and provide encouragement along the way. Sometimes you just need someone to assure you there is a path forward.
Meeting with our professional financial counselors can help you:
- Manage your bills
- Work through debt
- Establish or improve your credit
- Create a budget
- Open a bank account
- Save and plan for your future
