Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide a safe environment for our employees and citizens and protect the financial assets of the City of Shreveport by identifying, analyzing, and implementing risk prevention programs and developing effective channels of communication through excellent customer service.

Vision 

Our vision is to continue to build upon past successes, while persistently seeking opportunities to develop and implement new ones. This can be accomplished through teamwork as it enables staff to work together toward a common goal with the opportunity to direct individual accomplishments toward organizational objectives. Teamwork is the fuel that allows ordinary people to attain extraordinary results. Effective communication and commitment to excellent are also paramount to this endeavor.

To Risk Management, there is nothing more important than safety and health of our employees and citizens and protecting the assets of the City of Shreveport. Risk Management is committed to protecting the City of Shreveport through education, training, and awareness.

Scope Of Responsibility

The division is responsible for risk management which is inclusive of, but not limited to, the Property / Casualty Insurance Program (General Liability for Aviation, Law Enforcement and Fire) Auto Liability, Employee Dishonesty, Risk Management Committee, Safety and Accident Review Board and the Workers’ Compensation Program.

Customer Service

Critical to the success of the division is the ability to provide excellent customer service to our employees. Satisfying customer needs as well as meeting our statutory obligations is paramount.

Insurance / Self-Insured

The City of Shreveport Property and Casualty Programs currently utilize self-insurance coverage, commercial insurance coverage or a combination of both for certain risks. This responsibility includes developing Request for Proposals (RFPs) with appropriate specifications and evaluating each proposal to determine broadest coverage and best price to adequately protect the city.

Staffing

Risk Management staff members are required to continue training and education in order to ensure that they maintain proficiency and competency in Risk Management.
