A woman jumped from the her second-floor apartment this morning in the 200 Blk. of Prospect after her apartment caught fire. The Shreveport Fire Department was dispatched to the 200 Blk. of Prospect Street at 10:10 am for a two-story house fire. Firefighters from Fire Station No. 7 arrived on scene at 10:14 am and reported heavy smoke and flames showing from a second-floor apartment.
Firefighters quickly entered the apartment and contained the fire to the upstairs apartment. As firefighters were attacking the fire, bystanders alerted the fire crews to the female occupant in the back yard. The female occupant received medical treatment on scene and was transported to a local hospital for treatment of burns.
It took 10-units, 30-firefighters, 13-mins. to bring the situation under control. Battalion 1 placed the fire under control at 10:27 am. There were 4-apartments damaged by the fire. The heaviest damage was to the upstairs unit where the fire originated and the other upstairs apartment received heavy smoke damage. The two lower units received light smoke damage and water damage
The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time. There were no other injuries reported.
