BOIL ADVISORY - Shreveport Water System
Low Water Pressure in West Shreveport
There was a 16” water main blow out near Hollywood Avenue. The initial blowout caused many in a large area of west Shreveport to have low or no water pressure. Customers impacted include those located:
South of Greenwood Road, West of Hearne Avenue, North of Hollywood Avenue and East of Kennedy Drive.
Repairs are underway at this time. The water supplied by our distribution system in the affected area may be of questionable microbiological quality. Therefore, as a precaution, the Department of Water & Sewerage is issuing a VOLUNTARY BOIL ADVISORY effective immediately, until sample(s) collected and analyzed indicate the absence of coliform bacteria.
It is recommended that water be disinfected before consuming it (including fountain drinks), making ice, brushing teeth, or using it for food preparation or rinsing of foods by the following means:
Boil water for one (1) full minute in a clean container. The one minute starts after the water has been brought to a rolling boil. (The flat taste can be eliminated by shaking the water in a clean bottle or pouring it from one clean container to another)
When satisfactory laboratory test results are obtained, the Department of Water & Sewerage with approval from the Louisiana Department of Health will then rescind the Boil Advisory and notify you that the water has been deemed safe.
