[ARCHIVED] Shreveport Fire Chief Announces 31 Life Saves

Fire Chief Scott Wolverton proudly announces that Shreveport Fire Department firefighter/paramedics were instrumental in saving 31 cardiac arrest patients. During 2014, the SFD responded to a total of 314 medical cardiac arrest patients, of which 78 regained a pulse. Of those 78 patients who regained a pulse, 31 survived and were released from the hospital.

To be considered a life save, a breathless patient with pulseless electrical activity must be resuscitated using both basic and advanced life support techniques. When the SFD regains a pulse, or Return of Spontaneous Circulation (ROSC) it is recorded as a ROSC. For our recorded ""Saves" the patient must have survived to be discharged from the hospital. This includes those discharged to home, nursing facility, or rehabilitation center.
