The Shreveport Police Department will be maintaining an enhanced presence in local school zones as another school year is set to begin next week.
On Monday, August 14, 2017, as students all over Shreveport prepare to head back to school, Shreveport Police officers will be working hard to keep them safe. Officers with the department’s Traffic Bureau, as well as community liaison officers and patrol officers, will be out and about monitoring area school zones and ensuring compliance with the “Hands Free” zones and reduced speed limits within those areas.
Motorists are urged to use caution and pay close attention to those signs and/or flashing yellow lights that indicate they are entering a school zone. Drivers should also be mindful of school buses and remember that Louisiana state law requires traffic on both sides of an undivided roadway to come to a complete stop at least 30 feet from the bus while children are loading or unloading. Please join with us as the new school year kicks off and let’s all work together to keep our children safe as they travel to and from school.
