The Shreveport Police Department’s Mounted Patrol Unit arrested a man following an alleged vehicle burglary late last night.
On August 10, 2017, just before 11:30 pm, Mounted patrol officers responded to reports of a vehicle burglary in progress at the Holiday Inn Hotel in the 100 block of Lake Street. A witness reported that a subject was stealing tools from the toolbox of a pickup truck and stashing them next to a building across the street from the hotel. As officers were in route to the burglary, they were notified of a major accident at the same location. Officers arrived on scene and learned that both incidents were connected.
Officers launched their investigation and through witness reports and information gathered at the scene, learned that James D Dilworth, 49, of the 700 block of Austen Place, allegedly entered a toolbox in the bed of a pickup parked at the Holiday Inn. Dilworth removed tools from the toolbox and stashed the tools next to a business across the street from the hotel. After stashing the tools, Dilworth started back across the street toward the hotel. Dilworth was struck by a Sportran bus as he entered back onto the street outside of the crosswalk. Officers were able to recover the stolen tools and return them to their owner.
Dilworth was transported to University Health Hospital with what was described as non-life threatening injuries. He was released by the hospital and booked into the Shreveport City Jail on one count of Simple Burglary.
